With the introduction of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Decree 2010 followed by the General Practice Regulations, the need for a quality local Post Graduate program in General Practice became evident.
The College was tasked with the development of such a program and has begun the groundwork with a view to have it in place by the end of 2014.
Following meetings with FNU, MOH, WHO and GP Colleges in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, the College is now well into the first phase, hoping to establish an Education Committee by January 2013 that will develop the content of the Diploma program in partnership with relevant stakeholders, both locally and abroad.
The Education Committee will also oversee the Continuing Professional Development program of the College and develop it further to compliment the vision of the College and keep abreast of current trends in healthcare.

Regulations governing entering private general practice in Fiji were gazetted in 2010. These Regulations are policed by the Fiji Medical Council and its Secretariat and applied when a practitioner wishing to enter private general practice applies for a Practising Licence.
